Do you ever think your life is boring? Do you sometimes wish you were away on an adventure? Will it come at a price?
Eren Yeager and Luke Skywalker are two characters who both dream of leaving their home and exploring the outside world. They were both prevented from doing so by their guardians, but when their guardians’ lives were taken, they had no choice but to leave.
Eren Yeager lives in a town on the outskirts of the world in which he lives. Living at the edge of his world, Eren watches the scouts go to and from their titan-slaying expeditions. Eren becomes curious of the outside world and wants to join the scouts to know what the outside world is like.
When C-3PO asks Luke where he is, Luke says, “Well, if there’s a bright center to the universe, you’re on the planet that it’s farthest from.” Luke (as I presume) is also curious about the vast universe in which he lives. He wants to transmit his application to the academy so he so he can explore the galaxy.
Eren and Luke both announce their dreams at the dinner table (or rather, Mikasa announces it for Eren). The responses of their guardians were similar in reaction, but different in purpose. Eren’s mother panics at the idea of Eren joining the scouts, since she would basically be sending her son to his death. Uncle Owen tells Luke he is needed for the harvest, and can’t have him leave for the academy.
Both Eren and Luke leave the house upset.
While Eren is out, the Colossal Titan appears and kicks a hole in the wall. One of the boulders lands on Eren’s house, completely crushing it, and trapping his mom underneath the rubble. Eren rushes to save his mother instead of getting himself to safety.
While Luke is out with Obi-Wan Kenobi, they find a decimated Sandcrawler and the carcasses of slaughtered Jawas. Luke realizes these are the same Jawas that sold him R2 and 3PO, and if the stormtroopers traced the robots here, they must have learned who they sold them to and that would lead them back…home! Luke rushes back home without thinking of his own safety.
Eren rushes back to free his mother from the rubble, but he cannot do so in time. While Mr. Hannes carries him away, he watches in horror as a titan eats his mother.
Luke returns home in his speeder and finds that his home has completely been destroyed. To his shock, the skeletons of his aunt and uncle are lying outside.
Eren and Luke both dreamed of leaving their house and exploring the world (or universe), and were forbidden by their guardians. But now, neither can choose to return home. Both are forced to leave their homes, and both choose to fight the enemy that caused its destruction.
